Strange Large Animal - 27.02.08
We recently received the following report:

I've just driven down Kirkham rd and a large cat walked across the road infront of the car. It was a bit bigger and longer than a fox with a cat like face and tale. It was light brown with dark spots. I think I spotted the same animal before xmas in the Willows graveyard in Kirkham as it frightened me.
Has anyone else seen it? Does anyone know what it was, or is??
Its been spotted again. Lower Lane area near Quakers Wood (07.02.08)
And there is more!
The plot thickens!! Reports have been heard (in the co-op!) that some chickens
and a parrot have gone missing from Kirkham rd, also last night someone told
me that they had heard a farmer down there talking that one of his animals
had been killed and he didn't think it was a fox that did it?? Allegedly!!!

Hugh Dempster Estate Agents Close down - May 2007
Our most recent addition to estate agents in the village has closed down. The premises are now being advertised for rent.

Harlequin Players performed their very first play at Freckleton Memorial Hall this weekend. The play was called “Love Begins At 50”, a comedy farce by Raymond Hopkins.
The play was indeed a comedy and the timing of the actors in this farce was brilliant! Members of the audience thoroughly enjoyed the repartee between all of the actors and sympathised in particular with the character of the hen-pecked husband in this story!
This was definitely a successful event not only for all members of the cast but for everyone who participated in making this a great evenings entertainment. Many thanks to the caterers ( the Harlequins themselves!) for providing the unexpected refreshments and buffet.
I will definitely be looking out for their next performance at our village hall and for all of those who missed it, make sure you go to the next one!

Heavy Good Vehicles through the village - 10.02.07
In recent months it has been observed that there is a significant increase in heavy good vehicles passing through the village centre on their way to Naze Lane Industrial Estate. Polytank have applied for a licence to increase the number of vehicles and trailers to their site. There is concern that the access to the site, through the centre of the village, is not suitable for such an increase in heavy vehicle traffic. One of the trucks is reported to have hit a car on Friday morning. Gayle Brown is organising a petition to contest this increase. Please contact her at if you wish to offer your support.

Don't forget to let them know. My mini survey suggests the new car park layout is universally disliked.

Halloween Party - Update
Reports are mixed. The event was obviously targeted at the older age group. The younger children arrived and left quickly. There was no gazebo, only a groundsheet. Face painting was on offer later in the evening, even if it was done by torch light. Some of the older children report having a great time, despite the lack of facilities. Perhaps better planning and notification in the future might be a good idea?

Halloween Party - 01.11.05
All in all not a good showing for anyone. There was no gazebo, only a 12x12 groundsheet. Its also hard to paint faces by torch light. Surrounded by older youths talking foul language most of the youngsters who turned up left after a very short time. From what I saw a lot of the kids had gone to a great deal of effort and some of the costumes were really good. I don't know what went wrong, but 'questions will be asked'.

Heart of the Community Competition
The Younger years Committee would like to express their most grateful thanks to everyone who voted for them in the recent Heart of the Community Competition run by the Lytham St.Annes Express. They are extremely pleased to announce they were joint 3rd place winners and received £125.00 in prize money. Yet another step closer to their goal of a Youth Club in Freckleton has been achieved.

Update on Tom Crofts Car Park
Fencing and barriers have been added to the new path. The health and safety check has been done. The gate into the school remains locked until the re-cycle bins have been relocated.

Freckleton Brass Band
Our congratulations go to the band for winning the North West Counties Brass Band Association competition in Fleetwood on Sunday the 2nd October 2005. The band is ranked amongst the top 50 in the WORLD and will be representing England at the Scottish Open competition in November. It will feature several soloists and pieces requested from their popular and entertaining concerts. More details can be found on their web site

Public Toilets Re-opened
The public toilets near the Memorial Gardens are now open again during the day. Still disgusting, but when 'needs must'.

The Freckleton Younger Years Committee, who are raising money for youth facilities in the village, are in the final of this competition. Please buy a copy of the paper and vote for them. Closing date is Friday October 7th.

Neighbourhood Watch
A number of residents have expressed interest in establishing a Neighbourhood Watch. More information how to set up a scheme can be found on the government crime reduction site. Freckleton.org will be happy to support any such initiatives.

Police Report
The police report at the last Parish Council Meeting concluded that it has been a quite summer break with very few problems reported. Dog fouling remains a problem. People have been playing golf on the playing field, which is against the law. There are problems with parking on pavements but as long as sufficient room is left for the passage of a pram/wheelchair then it is a problem for Parkwise not the police. Complaints have been made about drinking and motor offences on Lower Lane Estate.

Public Toilets Closed
It appears that the pubilc toilets near the Memorial Gardens have been closed. Whilst all will agree that they are pretty disgusting, closing them down does not seem to be a good solution. Express your opinion to both the Freckleton Parish Council and Fylde Borough Council (Fylde Borough being the responsible party).

Changes to Tom Crofts Car Park
The car park on School Lane (behind the library) has beem rearranged and a new gate to the school has been added. There are obviously problems with the new layout as the gate into the school has remained locked..
