Charity Cycle Ride - 04.05.11
On 4th May Alex Walsh cycled 150 miles from Freckleton, Lancashire, to Fleckney in aid of Cancer Research UK. The bike ride was in honour of Alex's late father Tony, who passed away last year after a brave battle with Cancer. Tony was originally from Freckleton and moved down to Leicester in the seventies before finally settling in Fleckney in 1980. Tony was a keen bandsman with the Fleckney silver band and had many friends throughout the village.
Alongside Alex several other Flecktonians cycled down from Lancashire for some or all of the distance. Mark Chapman, Tom Leigh, Michael Dunkley, Kev Messenger and Michael Grant on the bikes and Alex's brother Chris followed in a support vehicle.
Starting on the picturesque banks of the river Ribble just south of Lytham St Annes on the 4th May, the boys navigated Manchester before stopping in Warrington. Day 2 saw the route wind its way through the hills towards Stoke and an overnight stop in Uttoxeter before the final leg back to Fleckney arriving at the Golden Shield pub for a well deserved pint or two!
All donations will be either going to Cancer Research UK or to other related charities. If you would like to donate, you can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/Alex-Walsh. You can see the details of the cycle ride on www.twitter.com/frecktofleck
