Established in 1930 the Freckleton Cricket Club continues
to offer juniors the chance to play the game and this season will
see teams represent Freckleton in a number of age groups of the Palace
Shield junior competition. The importance of a successful junior section
is emphasised by the number of players who have become key members
of both the 1st and 2nd XI with the 3rd XI being primarily junior
members.
We are always striving for achievement and welcome any fresh talent
to add to any of our senior and junior teams. If anyone is looking
to play cricket, please do not hesitate in pointing them in our
direction.
If you would like to join Freckleton CC simply pop down to the
Bush Lane ground on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. Any one of the
members attending the senior nets will be more than happy to help
you. |

Amateur Dramatics Society |
Local Drama Group Harlequins are ready to start the
New Year, busy rehearsing for forthcoming productions at Freckleton
Memorial Hall. First up is a new Murder Mystery called Theatre of
Horror, which will be on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th March. Then,
a new full length Comedy Play called Happy Campers set in the Yorkshire
countryside (setting that on stage will be a challenge!) which will
be performed on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May.
For those that saw Girls Night! last May, for which the group picked
up an award, you will be pleased to hear that the sequel Girls Night
Too is being staged later in the year on Friday 30th & Saturday
31st October. Harlequins are especially pleased about this one as
they have been granted the performing rights that is, as yet, not
generally available to any amateur group.
Other Murder Mystery Events will be staged during the course of the
year, dates to be announced. The Harlequins Murder Mysteries have
proved so popular that other Village Halls have invited them to do
their stuff. Much Hoole and St Michaels, Southport will see them
perform next month. Vice-Chairman Chris Shelstone says, "Word
has got around that we put on a good show and our enjoyment shows
through. Other local village halls have realised that they can raise
funds for their local Church/Club by inviting us along. We charge
a small fee which goes straight into our own funds that we can use
to enhance the facilities we provide at Freckleton eg Sound & Lighting
etc."
Harlequins are also looking for new members to join, so if you fancy
a go or just want to come along one evening out of interest then
contact Chris on 01772 880203. There is even talk of a possible Panto
at the end of the year - watch this space.
As usual, tickets can be obtained from Barbara on 01772 682491 or
from Chris on 01772 880203. Ticket price for this year will be £7
inc Hot Pot Supper. |

The Women's Institute is
a great national organisation for women of all ages, catering for
a wide range of interests, including crafts, cooking, walking, music
and drama, sport,
holidays, days out to places of interest - in fact something for
everyone. Denman College
in Oxfordshire, a beautiful Georgian house set in its own grounds,
is the W.I's own
Residential Adult Education College, offering a wide range of two
and three day courses
to members, allowing them to develop new skills or knowledge on
a wide range of
subjects.
There has been a Women's Institute in Freckleton since April 1922,
and it continues to
be an important part of village life. Meetings are held in the Freckleton
Memorial Hall on the 2nd
Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm from February to December. These
are friendly and
relaxed evenings with a speaker - a programme covering a wide range
of subjects, is
arranged each year - a competition, and afterwards there is time
for a chat with friends
over a cup of tea and biscuits and often a light hearted quiz. During
the summer months
trips are arranged, including a popular mystery trip.
